The essence of this story is true, specifically the outrageous behavior that was visited upon Julia and the disgraceful failure of the university to provide redress. When she and Alex finally decided to seek justice through the courts, their case landed on what’s called the “Rocket Docket” which meant that it would actually be heard much sooner than had it been in another jurisdiction. At the time of this writing, the case had not gone to trial. The real trial was scheduled to start June 7th but was settled at the eleventh hour.
It's time to meet the real Julia. She was based in large measure on Kyndra Miller Rotunda. Not only was she the foundation for the main protagonist in this story -- heroic  and determined -- but she is in truth a woman of intellect, warmth and dignity. She really does teach law school students how to help military families meet their particular needs. It is a wonderful and important service. If you had any doubts about her background as outlined in the book, dispel them now. She recounts her efforts to help military families at Walter Reed Army Hospital and her work at Guantanamo in her book Honor Bound: Inside the Guantanamo Trials. Click here for a taste.
I learned about this case from Ron Rotunda, who is one of the leading Constitutional authorities today. I met Ron 37 years ago in Washington, D.C. He was  Deputy Majority Counsel  for the Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities, otherwise known as the Senate Watergate Committee. I was a production associate with ABC News. I've not met a more principled man in my life; his integrity honors his profession. He is also generous, gracious, and a loving husband.
Tony Seton is a communications specialist. Tony writes books for people through the Living Proof Project, and he markets himself as a public speaker with the moniker of Motivational Patriot. Plus he is a teacher, media trainer, and web designer. When he’s not communicating, Tony is flying, taking photographs, and walking on the beach.
